Text/Polymer

Nylon is a polyamide fiber commonly known as nylon (Nylon), English name for polyamide (hereinafter referred to as "PA"). As first synthetic fiber developed in world, "nylon family" has a large number of members, and its applications are also very wide.

One, "lead nylon" - PA6 and PA66

Among nylon materials currently needed in world, nylon 6 and nylon 66 account for more than 95% of total, which can be said to occupy a dominant position.

1.1 Nylon 6 (PA6)

English name: Polyamide6/Nylon6; Nylon 6 (PA6), abbreviated as polycaprolactam, also known as polyamide (Polyamide-6), is a semi-crystalline granular engineering plastic with a melting point of 215–225°C and a relative density of 1.14 g/cm3.

Nylon 6 molecular chain contains an amide group (-NHCO-), a carboxyl end group (-COOH) and an amino group (-NH2).

Nylon 6 has following characteristics:

Ø Excellent wear resistance and self-lubrication: Due to low coefficient of friction of nylon 6, it has good self-lubrication.

Ø High mechanical strength: strong intermolecular force, so it has high mechanical strength and modulus of elasticity.

Ø Excellent chemical resistance: Nylon 6 has good chemical resistance, especially oil resistance.

Ø Good heat resistance and electrical insulation: Nylon 6 has high resistivity and excellent heat resistance.

At present, nylon 6 is mainly used in production of chemical fibers and engineering plastics, of which production of chemical fibers accounts for about 70%, and production of engineering plastics for about 30%.

1.2 Nylon 66 (PA66)

English name: Polyamide66/Nylon6, referred to as PA66, also known as polyamide 66, namely polyhexamethylene adipamide. This polymeric compound containing an amide group (-NHCO-) in main chain is a translucent or transparent milky white crystal and is an important engineering resin.

Ø It still has high strength, toughness, creep resistance and low coefficient of friction over a wide temperature range;

Ø High tensile strength, excellent wear resistance, low friction noise;

Ø High resistance to hydrocarbon solvents, especially gasoline and lubricating oils.

2. Other types of nylon

2.1 Nylon 1010 (PA1010)

English name: Polyamide1010/Nylon1010 (abbreviated as PA1010). The biggest feature of 1010 nylon is its high ductility, which can be stretched 3-4 times its original length, has high tensile strength, excellent impact resistance and low temperature resistance, does not become brittle at -60°C, and has excellent wear resistance. It is widely used in aerospace, cables, optical cables, metal or cable coating, etc. because of its high strength and good oil resistance.
