So, what is fundamental difference between it and rubber?

Latex is a milky white liquid similar to milk. Latex is a biosynthetic product whose composition and colloidal structure vary greatly due to differences in tree species, geology, climate and other related conditions. Natural latex contains 27% to 41% rubber components, in addition to rubber components, latex also contains water and protein.

Rubber is also divided into natural rubber and synthetic rubber. Natural rubber is extracted from rubber tree. Natural rubber is a natural polymer compound, main component of which is polyisoprene. Ninety-three percent of its composition is rubber hydrocarbons, rest is protein, and natural rubber is most widely used general purpose rubber. Synthetic rubber is obtained by polymerization of various monomers.

So, how is a latex pillow made?

Step 1. Remove ammonia (if needed)

As we all know, natural latex comes from rubber trees. Each rubber tree can produce about 30 ml of natural latex per day, and natural latex raw material is oxidized relatively quickly. If not processed within 24 hours. , material will deteriorate. In Southeast Asian and South Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, factories in these countries can process raw materials within 24 hours as they produce and process them themselves.

Someone wants to ask, but what about China? There is also a lot of latex processing in China, where does raw material come from? The natural latex in China is produced in Hainan and Guangdong province. Due to climate, quality of produced latex is not enough for production of latex bedding. If it has to be produced, it can only be imported. Someone wants to ask again, isn't natural latex only 24 hours old, how can it be shipped? Air transportation is possible, but it is unrealistic, and cost is too high. We can only use sea transportation to control transportation, and keeping fresh is a big problem. The way to solve this problem is to add a preservative - ammonia, adding ammonia water to natural latex, content of which can reach 0.7%, so that it can be preserved for a long time. Everyone knows that ammonia gas has a strong pungent odor. The latex bed linen produced cannot have too strong a smell, otherwise no one will dare to use it, so ammonia must be removed. Ammonia removal equipment, latex in bucket is constantly agitated by ammonia gas volatilization machine. When ammonia content of natural latex falls to the standard, latex bedding can be produced.

Second stage: mixing and fine grinding

Mix natural latex after removing ammonia and necessary additives, and then mix it with a fast mixer to mix evenly. Put mixed latex material into a ball mill to grind material more finely. The third stage: foaming, injection molding, vulcanization

Pump crushed latex material into foaming agent, and then fill mold with raw materials foamed with foaming agent. Further, vulcanization process is carried out through vulcanization section

Fourth stage: cooling, washing and dehydration

After mold comes out of curing section, temperature of mold reaches about 30° after cooling with air conditioning. If temperature is too high or too low, it will affect quality of next latex pillow. . Open cooled mold and take out latex pad inside. At this time, latex pad contains a lot of water and is very heavy. Put taken out latex pad into dehydrator to dehydrate.

Step Five: Drying and Trimming

After above steps, latex pillow will not dry completely and will still have moisture in it, so it should be dried in an oven or bakery at a high temperature of 110°. Latex pillows are made in fixed molds. The molds cannot be perfectly flat and there are always small gaps. This results in some extra corners and angles after pillow has been steamed. They are all cut by hand to look nice. This is also case for pure natural latex pillows. Some synthetic latex pillows do not require trimming. Consumers should pay particular attention to latex pillows that do not show any trimming marks.
